The first module of the popular DVD course “Living the Questions 2.0” will be offered at The Fountains beginning Wednesday morning, Oct. 30th at 10am and will continue for seven (7) weeks. The theme of the first seven sessions is “Invitation to Journey” and includes topics like Taking the Bible Seriously, Stories of Creation, and the Lives of Jesus. Facilitated by one of the creators of the series, Rev. David Felten, Living the Questions was developed as an alternative to the pat answers offered by more evangelical churches. Questions explored include how taking the Bible seriously excludes a belief in the inerrancy (or infallibility) of scripture, how Creationism is not compatible with the Bible, and how embracing the conflicting Gospel portrayals of Jesus actually enriches our understanding of who Jesus was and his relevance for today.
While some local churches object to this material being made available to the public (Pastor Tony Pierce has declared Rev. Felten the “primary proponent of [an] apostate religious movement.”), Living the Questions is now in use by over 6,000 churches around the world and was a #1 bestselling book on Amazon (HarperOne, 2012). Rev. John White of Massachusetts says, “Living the Questions is the most extraordinary adult education material I have ever used. Life-changing – personally and collectively!”
Living the Questions has been praised for introducing people to ways of thinking about the Bible that is taught in seminaries but often doesn’t make it into the sermons or curriculum of local churches. Felten says, “If you’ve ever suspected that you’re not getting the whole story in a more dogmatically traditional setting, then a Living the Questions class is for you.”
